THE BEGINNING
BUILT IN THE
NIGHTCLUB SCENE.
I’m DJ Reptile, a British DJ, radio presenter and music producer from the North East of England. I’m 52 years old and have spent more than 35 years behind the decks, with music playing a huge part in my life for as long as I can remember.
My journey started in the nightclub scene, long before digital DJing and streaming changed the industry. I built my experience the traditional way — playing to real crowds, learning how to read a dancefloor and understanding that being a DJ is about much more than simply playing one track after another.
Over the years I’ve played at clubs, pubs and events throughout the UK, as well as taking the DJ Reptile name to venues in Europe.
MUSICAL EVOLUTION

TO DRUM & BASS.
My musical journey has never stood still. Earlier in my career, my sets were built around House, Bass House and Techno. As electronic music developed, so did my own taste and style, eventually pulling me towards the harder, faster and bass-driven world of Drum & Bass and Jungle.
Today, that's where you'll find the heart of the DJ Reptile sound. I like my DnB heavy — deep subs, dirty Reese basslines, warbling bass, hard drums, Jungle breaks and drops that are meant to be felt as much as heard.

Having spent more than three decades DJing, I've experienced enormous changes in dance music and DJ culture.
I've gone from the earlier days of the nightclub scene through multiple generations of electronic music and into today's digital world. Rather than staying locked into one period or sound, I've always wanted to keep moving forward.
That experience influences the way I DJ today. A great set isn't just about playing the biggest tracks — it's about energy, timing, selection and knowing when to change direction.
For me, the crowd has always mattered.

Drum & Bass and Jungle are now my main focus, both behind the decks and in the studio.
Alongside DJing, I've moved further into producing original music, creating tracks and albums that combine modern DnB production with influences collected throughout my career.
My productions are released through Venom Bass Records, the home of the DJ Reptile sound since 1992.
The label gives me somewhere to experiment, push the bass harder and create music without forcing everything into the same formula.

Alongside my club and music work, I am also a DJ on a radio station, bringing my love of Drum & Bass, Jungle and bass-driven music to listeners on air.

After more than 35 years, I'm not interested in simply looking backwards at what I've already done. There are still new tracks to make, new mixes to put together, new sounds to experiment with and new ideas to try.
